Jesus is the Christ
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. Acts 5:42
We see in this verse the person and position of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His name is Jesus and His office is the Christ, the Anointed of God. In the Greek, Christ is Khristos, meaning the Messiah. Here is just one of the innumerable reasons why, as our verse suggests, we must not cease teaching and preaching Jesus. And we must teach and preach the truths of the Scriptures from cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation, until the whole world hears. For the apostle John writes in John 20:31, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” But how could a person know that unless he or she is taught the Word of God and brought to a saving knowledge of the Son of God, Jesus the Christ? So God the Father has purposed that His Word which speaks of the glory and majesty of His Son would continue. Colossians 1:28, “Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”
The apostle Paul write in Ephesians 4:13, “Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” And as long as there are those false doctrines which circulate, such as praying for the dead, satan being the half brother of Jesus, and we will all some day be gods inhabiting our own planets, there must be those who will teach and preach Jesus as the Christ.
Peter as well gives us strong words to encourage us in 2 Peter 1:2-3, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” You see, grace and peace will be multiplied toward you as you obtain knowledge of Jesus as the Christ. Peter goes on to further encourage us near the end of his epistle, 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Now we all know that in order for anything to grow it must have nourishment, i.e., food and water. Jesus boldly proclaimed in John 6:35, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” So when the rest of the world would leave you hungry, Jesus never will. And when the rest of the world would leave you thirsty, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God never will as our study verse states. For me, as long as there is life in this broken down body of mine, I will not cease to teach and preach Jesus as the Christ. God has called me and is further equipping me to do so and thus, I am privileged to declare the name of Jesus as the only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Who has come to redeem mankind and restore a right relationship to the God of all Creation. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
If you have never asked Jesus Christ to come and be your Lord and Savior, may I ask, what is keep you from doing so? If you strayed from that intimate relationship with Him and want to come back, know that He loves you dearly and is waiting to hear from you. 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “… Behold now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of salvation.”
